UP minister Rajbhar says ‘poor get swayed by small promises’

(G.N.S) Dt. 25
Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar landed in a controversy yet again after his remarks at a recent rally seemed to “mock” the plight of the voters.
During a speech at a public gathering, Rajbhar berated voters for “getting swayed by small promises”.

He said that the poor votes for leaders, based on “small incentives” like food and alcohol promised to them and end up getting “fooled” by the very same leaders.
He said, “Baati-chokha kaccha vote, daaru murga pakka vote. Saare garib daaru peete ho, murga khaake vote dete ho aur ye Delhi, Lucknow jaane waale neta 5 saal tujhe murga banake ghumate hain,” (“Baati chokha makes for a weak vote but liquor-chicken makes for a strong one, All the poor drink alcohol and gorge on chicken and get fooled by these leaders in Delhi and Lucknow for five years.”)
This is not the first time that Rajbhar has courted controversy. In October, he came in the spotlight for declaring that parents who fail to send their children to school should be jailed.
Later that month, a five-year-old boy was killed after he was run over by one of the cars in the minister’s convoy in Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh.
