A 22-year-old woman from Finland was found dead in a lodge at Triplicane here on Wednesday morning. The woman, Helea Nea Emilia, stayed in the lodge with her boyfriend, Palomaki Aleksi Joel Santeri, who is also from Finland. Police said the woman might have died due to drug overdose.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Emilia and Santeri arrived in India on November 23 on a tourist visa. They came to Chennai on Tuesday morning and checked in to a lodge in Triplicane. The couple kept their baggage in their room and went out.
The couple returned to the lodge late in the night. Room service boys saw them going into the room “under the influence of alcohol.” On Tuesday morning, Santeri rushed out of the lodge and tried to hire an autorickshaw. As he failed to communicate to the autorickshaw driver, he requested the lodge manager and other workers to assist him to get an autorickshaw to rush his girlfriend to a nearby hospital. Lodge employees found something suspicious in his behaviour. They followed him to the room and found the woman lying on the floor.
The lodge employees informed the Triplicane police. The police sent her to Government Royapettah Hospital where doctors declared her dead. The police said the body was swollen and there was no injury on it. They recovered some drugs and pills from the couple’s bags. Samples of the drugs were sent to a laboratory for analysis.
