Congress party on Saturday won big in Raghogarh by winning 20 out of 24 wards in the just-concluded civic body polls.
Aarti Mahendra Sharma of Congress won the President post in Raghogarh Vijaypur Nagarplika Parishad of Guna district. In Dhar, Parvat Singh Couhan from Congress won the President’s post. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had extensively campaigned in Dhar.
Raghogarh is considered to be a fiefdom of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh.
A News18 report said that the BJP had clinched 8 President posts, while the Congress too had won 8.
19 urban local bodies spread over five districts- Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Guna and Anuppur- and 51 Panchayats, had gone to polls on 17 January. The counting started at 9 AM this morning. The BJP had already termed these elections as the semi-final before the assembly polls later this year.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had lost his cool during the campaign when he was seen slapping one of his own security staff. The video of Chouhan slapping his security personnel gone viral on social media. The incident had taken place in Dhar.
