Dr. Prachi Priyanka, author of a short stories collection ‘Thistle and Weeds‘ was invited by Sherubtse college, The Royal University of Bhutan, on 19th June, 2020 to deliver an online lecture on ‘The Art of Writing Flash Fiction’. The session was heartily received by the undergraduate students of English and they said they gained fresh perspectives and insight into the art of writing stories. Flash fiction, a genre evolving and gathering popularity in America and Europe, is a form of writing that can be called experimental, edgy and thoroughly engaging. Flash fiction are very short, crisp stories that generally dwell with human condition and are marked by a lingering taste long after the story is finished. 22nd June, the shortest day of the year, is celebrated as National Flash Fiction day in New Zealand and Great Britain. In her session, Dr. Prachi appreciated Bhutanese students for their hard work, honesty and humility and said that she had a very productive session with such enthusiastic students eager to learn and master the skill. Dr. Prachi is Assistant Professor of English at Sharda University, Greater Noida and believes that any change in society is possible only when we listen, learn and empathise with people around us. She gleams with hope as she says “Right stories can save the world”.
