Police lodge 2 more cases in Kanyakumari in for Ram Rajya Rath Yatra

Two more cases have been registered against the persons associated with various Hindu outfits for accompanying the ‘Ram Rajya Ratha Yatra’ in Tamil Nadu.
“The cases were registered by the Kottar and Thuckalay Police Stations for unlawful assembly and organising a procession and public meeting despite denial of permission by the police,” Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kanyakumari District, N Shreenath, told TOI on Saturday.
The yatra entered Kanyakumari district, from Tirunelveli, on Thursday evening and started from Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram on Friday morning. In due course, the rally was accompanied by many two-wheelers and cars, resulting in traffic congestion in Nagercoil town, the district headquarters. They also organised a public meeting at Chettikulam in Nagercoil despite denial of permission by the police.The Kottar Police registered a case against a named person and many others, without mentioning the name or number of persons, under sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
Thuckalay Police also registered a case under the same sections against persons accompanying the yatra. The yatra was heading to Thiruvananthapuram.
The ‘Ram Rajya Ratha Yatra’ caused traffic snarls in the district where many roads have been closed and diverted due to ongoing construction work of a bridges at Parvathipuram in Nagercoil and at Marthandam.
A total number of four cases have been filed against the persons accompanying the yatra inm last two days. It may be recalled that the Sengottai and Tirunelveli Taluk Police had registered cases against 312 two-wheelers and seven cars for accompanying the yatra and violating Section-144.
