The rupee strengthened by 10 paise to 71.20 against the dollar in early trade on Tuesday. The rupee opened at 71.23 against the dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. Soon it saw a gain of 10 paise over the previous bandh and is running at Rs 71.20 per dollar. The rupee had closed at 71.30 against the dollar on Monday. According to currency traders, the rupee has gained due to the good start of domestic stock markets. But the rise has been halted due to the rise in crude oil prices, the withdrawal of foreign investors and the strengthening of the dollar. According to preliminary data, foreign portfolio investors sold Rs 184.58 crore on Monday. Meanwhile, Brent crude gained 1.28 percent to $ 53.95 a barrel. In morning trading, the yield on government bonds with a maturity of 10 years was 6.44 percent.
