A 22-year-old Dalit man from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, was brutally beaten up with sticks by a group of men on Saturday, a video of which has gone viral now.

Reports have it that three men beat and verbally abused the Dalit youth, identified as Vipin Kumar, for “insulting gods”, and was forced to chant ‘Jai Mata Di’ for it.

Police lodged an FIR under “strict sections” and launched a search for the four assailants — fourth being the individual who shot the video — after the video of the assault went viral on social media.

“We are speaking to the victim and his family members and the accused have been identified as three-four Gujjar residents of the area. The incident took place in the Purkazi police station area,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Deo.

“Our teams our conducting raids to nab the accused. One of them has been brought in for questioning and arrests will be made soon,” said Omvir Singh, SP City, Muzaffarnagar.
