(G.N.S) Dt. 26
As the river Mahadayi (Mandovi) water sharing between Karnataka and Goa has become a major issue in the ensuing Assembly elections, Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar blamed the ruling Congress Government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the stalemate and making it a political row. Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Javadekar who is also the election in charge of BJP in Karnataka said it was Congress who stopped release of water from Mahadayi to Karnataka. He said “It was the Congress party which was responsible for the present situation otherwise the issue would have been solved years back. Congress party is the culprit. It was Vajpyee who gave the permission for this project. It was Congress while in power at Goa stopped release of water to Karnataka on the direction by then Congress President Sonia Gandhi and not the NDA Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. “It is double speak of the Congress. They have betrayed the State and the farmers” he added.
Appreciating Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar and his initiative to resolve the issue over a letter to Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa the Union Minister blamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for making it political issue ahead of elections.
“ Siddaramaiah has making it a political issue. Manohar Parikkar is ready for talks to resolve the issue. He (Siddaramaiah) is unnecessarily blaming the BJP leaders. Let Congress not indulge in such cheap politics,” he added. Javadekar took strong exception to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Working President Dinesh Gundurao’s statement early in the day and said he was not staying in Raj Bhavan to plan something against Siddaramaiah. “I was staying in Raj Bhavan and Governor Vajubhai Vala has left for Gujarat on December 23 (Saturday) itself where the question of meeting him and discusses about State issue. I have not come here to draw plans against Siddaramaiah or his Government,” he said. “It is ridiculous. Congress has gone berserk. Governor is not here. I came only on Sunday. I condemn this. Congress is lying. ” he added.
Earlier in the day local TV channels have said Javadekar gave a secret visit to Raj Bhavan and discussed about party’s plea for permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on illegal de-notification. It may be noted here that senior BJP leader and MLC BJ Puttaswamy met the Governor and gave a memorandum seeking permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Bengaluru Development KJ George in connection with the illegal de-notification of 7.56 acres of land in Bhupasandra area in the city. If Governor Vaju Bhai Vala permits as in the case of Yeddyurappa when he was the Chief Minister then Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj had given permission to prosecute which sent him to jail, it has become a major challenge to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is playing the appeasement politics to the hilt. Governor has according to sources has asked for the legal opinion in this regard. If Siddaramaiah is prosecuted it is going to change the political space of Congress in the State ahead of elections which is crucial for Rahul Gandhi as president to prove appoint in leading the party.
