A 14-year-old boy returning home from a friend’s birthday party was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 52-year-old drunk policeman in his apartment complex in Rajnagar Extension at night. Both the minor, the son of a government official, and the cop live in the same building. Though he has not been arrested, Ravinder Singh, the traffic head constable, has been booked for sexual assault.Police said the alleged crime took place around 11 pm on Tuesday when the boy — a class IX student at a private school — was returning to his apartment.
“When he was passing by Singh’s apartment, the cop stopped him and started a conversation with him asking him about his school and in which class he studied. Singh suddenly kissed him on his cheek and asked him to come inside his flat and close the door.
The boy rushed to his own flat and told his parents about it,” said circle officer II (city) Atish Kumar Singh.
“The boy has not received any injuries,” he added.
Based on a complaint by the boy’s family, an FIR has been registered against the policeman under sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC and sections 7 and 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“The statement of the boy has been recorded. The traffic wing where Singh is posted has also been informed,” the circle officer said.
