Popular Marathi actor Praful Bhalerao met with an untimely death after he was killed in a train accident in Mumbai. The unfortunate mishap took place yesterday morning when he was travelling between Goregaon and Malad, say police sources. Bhalerao was only 22 and became immensely popular as a child actor. He is best known for his role in the TV series ‘Kunku’ and Marathi film ‘Barayan’, which hit theatres only recently.
Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Dhiwar from the Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) said the tragic incident took place between 4.15 am and 4.30 am on Monday morning. Bhalerao’s family had no idea about the unfortunate incident and were only informed about it after police contacted them using the phone found on Bhalerao.
Said Dhiwar, “Around 4.15 am, Bhalerao tried catching a running Churchgate local from platform number two, fell off off the train and went on to hit a signal pole and sustained a head injury. Motorman from next approaching train spotted him lying near the tracks and informed the station master. An announcement was made at the station after which GRP personnel quickly took him to Ambedkar Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. According to Bhalerao’s father, his son worked with a company in Malad and as per his daily routine, after his night shift, Praful would take a Churchgate train from Malad station to come home.”
The police have gone ahead and registered a case of accidental death although they still probing the incident.
Some of the other Marathi serials Bhalerao worked in included ‘Tu Majha Sangati’, ‘Nakushi’ and ‘Jyotiba Phule’.
