elangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president met Banerjee in her office here.
Rao earlier had decided to tour the country to realise his dream of stitching an alternative political front by uniting regional parties against BJP and the Congress Party.
Talking to reporters after the meeting at the State Secretariat, Rao, the chief of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, said that the country needed an alternative agenda and an alternative political force.
Speaking to the media after the meet, Rao said: “There is a need for an alternative force. We are trying to bring a real federal front for the country.”
He also commended Mamata for her efforts in her state. “The way Mamata has transformed Bengal is commendable. I am really proud of the way Kolkata has developed.”
The meeting assumes political significance as Rao recently floated the idea of forming a “third front” against the BJP and Congress for the Lok Sabha election.
“People are thinking before 2019 there will be another front. Let me clarify that this front will be for people of India. This won’t be a mere alliance of a few political parties, this will be for the people. There is a need for an alternate force,” Rao said, as per ANI.
Rao said that this country needs to a change and it is time to re-invent its politics. “Our front will be a bigger front, different from the routine model. This is just the beginning,” he added.
Mamata, meanwhile, said that politics is a continuous process but said that “this is a good beginning.” “Every political party has its own identity and respect… but no one party should rule the country. We need to work together, maintain good relations with all parties. We are approaching others also (for the front), we are not in a hurry.”
Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee is playing an instrumental role in bringing together Opposition parties against the BJP-led NDA with the aim to throw them out of power in the coming national poll.
Speaking about the Third Front, Rao said: “It will be a collective leadership, it will be a federal leadership.” “Neither the Congress nor the BJP has worked for this country,” he told media persons.
According to a TV channel, KCR was also expected to discuss the strategy that the two parties will adopt on the no-confidence motion being moved by the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress against the NDA government in the Lok Sabha.
The meeting took place at the state secretariat, ‘Nabanna’ and TRS MPs AP Jithender Reddy, K Keshava Rao and Telangana chief adviser Rajiv Sharma were also in attendance.
TRS MP K Kavitha said the Chief Minister has decided to form an alternative front to uplift the farmers.
“I am sure there will be a sea change on the political landscape of the country, once proposed federal front takes shape. The CM wants to extend welfare schemes being implemented in the TS across the country,” she commented.
With regard to no-trust motion, she said a final decision will be taken by the party leadership. Party MP B Vinod Kumar said the Chief Minister would take a decision on the no-trust motion if it is admitted by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
