The Benchmark BSE sensex falling over 1,100 points dragged by metal, IT and banking stocks as fears of fresh pandemic restrictions kept domestic investors jittery amid a heavy global selloff in stocks.
The 30-share BSE index was finished 1,115 points or 2.96 per cent lower at 36,554; while the broader NSE Nifty settled 326 points or 2.93 per cent at 10,806.
A massive global selloff in the equity market eroded Rs 3.95 lakh crore from investors’ wealth in a single trading session on Thursday.
IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, TCS, and M&M led the losses. Broader markets also ended the day in the red with the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indcies down 2.5 percent each.
