Heavy overnight rains lashed Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra

Heavy rains has lashed Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra, satellite cities, the suburbs and the coastal North Konkan belt on Tuesday hitting road and rail traffic. There was a huge landslide on a hillock with tonnes of debris falling on the Western Express Highway at Malad, blocking south-bound road traffic with commuters stuck.

BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation has deployed water pumps to flush out the excess flood water and clear the roads.

BMC Commissioner has said that 230mm rainfall occurred within 10 hours. It’s a flood-like situation. Mithi river had swelled up in the morning because of heavy rains, crossing the danger mark. As of now, it is flowing below danger level. The evacuation of people has also been stopped.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) appeals to all offices and other establishments to remain shut today, except emergency services, in view of heavy rainfall forecast.
India Meteorological Department recorded 268.6mm of rain in Mumbai’s Santacruz, 252.2mm in Colaba and 175mm in Basai on Tuesday, following incessant rainfall in the city. Many areas, including King’s Circle and Santa Cruz, were flooded with rainwater.
