Indian coast Guard conducts regional level maritime search and rescue exercise

Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Workshop and Exercise for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Region North West was conducted at Porbandar on 14 and 15 February 2023. The aim of the exercise was to check preparedness and response of various Stakeholders and to improve coordination during distress situation.

            The event started with a workshop on the theme ‘Protection of Life at Sea’. Various eminent speakers including guest speakers from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Earth System Science Organisation- International Centre for Ocean Information Services (ESSO-INCOIS) and Vessel Trafficking Management System (VTMS) were invited for presentations during the workshop.

            The Sea Exercise was conducted off Porbandar on Wednesday, 15 February 23 with participation of different Stake holders. Apart from ICG Ships and aircraft, assets from various resource agencies like Navy, Indian Air Force, Marine Police, Port Authorities etc. participated in the exercise. Various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingencies as per National Maritime SAR Manual were exercised.
