2 transgender persons gets permanent employment at govt hospital

(G.N.S) Dt. 22
After four years of working on a contract, two transgender persons employed at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) were posted as lab technician and physiotherapist on Wednesday.
The appointment orders were handed over to Neaya S. and M.P. Selvi Santhosham by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in the presence of Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar and senior officials.
Long struggle
For both, it’s been a long, hard struggle to get to where they are. Neaya, who is 33 and from Salem district, said she lost both her parents when she was quite young. Her older brother and sister are both married and settled. “I completed my studies with difficulty. I have an M. Sc in Microbiology,” she said. Despite her job, she said, finding rental accommodation in the city was very difficult. Selvi, a native of Tirunelveli district, said she completed her degree in physiotherapy and that she had worked at a few places but had faced discrimination. “I then became an independent physiotherapist,” she said.
The job at RGGGH later came through and now, she has been posted as a physiotherapist at the Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital. She said more members of the community needed to be given jobs. A release said that Neaya and Selvi had crossed the age bar for job reservations but were treated as special cases.
